IND vs AUS: Justin Langer Uncertain Which team is Better In 'Highly Unusual' Test Series

Former Australia head coach Justin Langer has weighed in on the ongoing Test series in India, describing it as 'highly unusual'. The Aussie veteran has pointed out two particular trends in the ongoing series, noting that all three Test matches have been completed in just over two days, and the team that has won the toss and elected to bat first has lost every game.

"There are two really unusual trends in this Test series and there’s been a lot of discussion about the pitches in India. One, the games have finished in two days, three Test matches have finished in just over two days, it’s extreme conditions. The second really interesting fact is that the team that has batted first has lost Test matches,” Langer said while peaking on SEN WA Breakfast

According to the southpaw, these trends suggest that the pitches in India have been spinning earlier and more erratically than usual, making it difficult to determine which team has been performing better in the series so far.

"These have been extreme spinning wickets, therefore I’m not sure who’s been the better team or worse team in this series so far, it’s too hard to read,” the erstwhile coach added.

Furthermore, Langer commented on the situation surrounding the Australian left-arm spinner Ashton Agar, who returned home from India without playing a Test.

He believes it would be unfair to judge Agar based on his performance in the Sydney Test against South Africa, as the pitch conditions were quite different from those in India.

The ex-opener stated that Agar had trained extensively with bowling coach Daniel Vettori in Sydney, and his specific type of bowling could have significantly impacted the spinning wickets in India.
