Temba Bavuma Can Return to T20 Setup After Domestic Grind, Says Head Coach

South Africa white-ball coach Rob Walter shed light on Temba Bavuma getting dropped from the T20I squad of the team for the home series versus the West Indies.
With Bavuma in hot water for his poor T20I record, it was a given that his position in the format would be untenable. And the reason revealed by Walter was no different as he cited the batter's T20I exclusion as a "performance-based decision."
Here's what Rob said:
"Yeah, as for Temba (Bavuma) missing out, I think that’s purely a T20 performance-based decision, and my job now is to work with him to get him back into the side, so that will certainly be one of our focuses."
Being the Proteas skipper for the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups, Bavuma resigned from the captaincy as the side failed to reach the semis in each of the editions.
Moreover, his T20I stats were not good enough to warrant a place in the playing XI. The 32-year-old has scored 635 runs in the 33 T20Is with an average and strike-rate of 22.67 and 116.08 respectively.
As for South Africa, the T20I captaincy has been transferred to the hands of Aiden Markram. He will start his leadership duty in the shortest-format from the three-match T20I series against Windies that is scheduled from March 25.
