Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) franchise, the Melbourne Stars have re-signed their star batter Meg Lanning on a three-year deal, keeping the Australian skipper until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Lanning's record for Stars

Lanning played for the Stars in the inaugural edition back in 2015, however, shifted base to Perth Scorchers for WBBL 04 and 05, before returning. She did not feature in the last edition of WBBL 08 due to an indefinite break from cricket.

The four-time World Cup-winning captain is the leading run-getter for Melbourne in the WBBL, with 2,725 runs, including 27 fifties and one ton.

In a statement, Lanning said that the side has great potential for the future and gearing up for next season.

Here's what Lanning said

"I've been lucky enough to enjoy a lot of team success in my career but I haven't enjoyed the ultimate success in the WBBL yet so that is a huge motivating factor for me.

Despite not making finals last year, to see this young, exciting group grow as the tournament wore on was excellent to see. This team has huge potential, and I can't wait for WBBL|09 to roll around."

GM Blair Crouch expressed the club's delight over continuing their association with a women's icon.

Lanning is currently leading the Delhi Capitals side in the first-ever Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023.
