In the battle of cellar dwellers, Quetta Gladiators came out ahead as Karachi Kings lost by four wickets in the 22nd match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023.
Rossington rises in Rawalpindi
Karachi Kings' opener Adam Rossington transformed into a catherine wheel, lighting up every part of the ground with his cracking fifty.
While after the Kings were sent to bat first, it was a rather underwhelming display of batsmanship except for Rossington, who took off instantly, bringing up his fifty in 32 deliveries.
Naseem Shah, Aimal Khan and Mohammad Nawaz made sure to give Karachi regular blows. However, Rossington and Imad Wasim's fifth-wicket partnership of 46 runs brought the match in balance.
After Rossington was dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq for 69 runs, Wasim had a task cut out to take his team over the total of 160. But as Aamer Yamin gave an able support to his skipper, Karachi ended at 164/6 in 20 overs.
Guptill pulls off a heist
Had Martin Guptill not been there, Quetta had no business winning the game that for the most part of the second innings were dominated by Karachi.
The Kiwi made a match out of nothing with his 56-ball 86, riding the Gladiators out of a chasm and eventually giving them their second win of the season.
With Quetta at 64/5 at the halfway mark and the bowlers doing a fine job for Karachi, it needed another 101 runs and a Guptill special for Sarfaraz Ahmed and Co. to achieve an unlikely victory.
Being the man of miracles, Guptill got the best out of himself and had Quetta Gladiators crossing the finishing line in the final over of the innings.
