A disciplined bowling effort, followed by Hayley Matthews' masterclass with the bat helped Mumbai Indians Women to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore Women by 9 wickets in Match 4 of the ongoing Women’s Premier League 2023 at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

MI bowled out RCB for 155

After opting to bat first, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women got off to a good start, with both the openers Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine taking every bowler to the cleaners early in the powerplay. However, their momentum was soon halted as they collapsed from 39 for none to 43 for four at the end of the powerplay.

Ellyse Perry alongside Richa Ghosh tried to rebuild the innings but it did not go long as Perry got involved in a suicidal run-out and RCB were in all sorts of trouble. The run-out never helped Richa Ghosh at the other end as she struggled to get going after Perry’s wicket and went on to get out for a 26-ball 28.

Uncapped Indian player Kanika Ahuja, followed by Shreyanla Patil and Megan Schutt played handy cameos to take RCB past 150 mark. Hayley Matthews was the pick of the bowlers, who took three wickets in her spell including the wicket of Smriti Mandhana.

Chasing 156, Mumbai Indians Women got off to a flying start as they managed 54 for one on the board at the end of the powerplay. Hayley Matthews was looking in great touch from the word go, punishing RCB bowlers throughout the powerplay.

Yastika Bhatia got out just before the end of the powerplay, marking the entry of Nat Sciver in the middle. The duo of Matthews and Sciver went on to have an unbeaten 114-runs partnership, chasing the target of 156 with more than five overs to spare.

Matthews remained unbeaten for 77 off 38, while Sciver with 55 off 29 at the other end. Same problem for RCB as the first game. Their bowlers looked clueless during the entire MI batting, concluding another hammering loss for the Mandhana and team.
