Afghanistan To Stay As Full Member Despite Reluctance To Form Women's Team

Some positive news has come for the fans of the Afghan nation and players themselves as Afghanistan is likely to stay as a full member, even after their unwillingness to field a women's team.

This comes after it was reported that International Cricket Council (ICC) were considering putting some sanctions on the board, however, it looks unlikely too. Moreover, later this month, cricket's governing body is organising a meeting where the matter is set to be discussed.

Some reports emerging state that the council chaired by ICC's deputy chairman Imran Khwaja might put the ball in the nation's court as a fact that it is almost impossible to do under the current regime.

Discussions held previously indicate that the talks were quite fruitful as they might help the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to defend itself despite several allegations.

Ross McCollum, an ICC board member who is from Ireland expressed that it is quite an extreme situation that is certainly not in ACB's control.

"Afghanistan is a delicate situation. The guys from ACB do want to see things happen with women's cricket. But it's not down to them, it's down to the people in charge. Forcing women to play cricket could lead to serious repercussions. We have to tread carefully, it will be a slow process."

Furthermore, Afghanistan was the only major nation whose team did not participated in the recently concluded Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup that happened in South Africa.

However, they have faced several implications in the past with major nations like Australia cancelling their one-off Test and three-match ODI series against them.
