Australian wicket-keeper, Alex Carey, has shared his thoughts on the recently concluded third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Indore. The visitors secured an emphatic nine-wicket victory, becoming the first team to secure a berth in the World Test Championship final, scheduled to be played from June 7, 2023, at the Oval.

Opening up on Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s reprieve in the first over of the game, Carey expressed his belief that he thought the veteran opener would have settled in for a substantial score after escaping two DRS calls in the first over of the match.

The wicketkeeper-batter shared his opinion on the challenging conditions throughout the game, mentioning the unexpected eight-degree turning ball that appeared early in the first innings, which neither team anticipated.

Carey explained that "instinct takes over when you see a ball bounce like that," and it was vital for Australia to gain momentum by striking early in the game as they were trailing in the series. He highlighted the challenging nature of the match, with balls "exploding off lengths," even causing Mitchell Starc to bowl a half volley that exploded up.

The South Australian further elaborated that "you're out there reacting to what you see," implying the importance of quick reflexes and an instinctive approach to the game.

Carey expressed his desire to improve his performance in the upcoming matches by playing to his strengths, including sweeping and manipulating the ball to score runs. He concluded by expressing his eagerness for another opportunity to play in Ahmedabad and to "get down and maybe get the broom out again," a metaphorical reference to his intention to sweep the ball for runs.
