Jason Roy Speaks After Scoring A Match-Winning Hundred Against Bangladesh

Jason Roy's breathtaking century knock on Friday (March 3) was the cornerstone of England's thumping 132-run win over Bangladesh in the second one-day international, which saw the visitors clinch the three-match ODI series. 

Jason Roy's belligerent knock of 132 runs off just 124 deliveries, laced with 18 fours and a six, powered England to a mammoth total of 326-7. In reply, England's bowlers put on a clinical display, bowling out Bangladesh for 194 in 44.4 overs.

Speaking on his match-winning knock, Jason Roy revealed that his prior experience of playing in the subcontinent helped him adapt to the conditions and score runs in Bangladesh.

Roy further admitted that he played a reckless shot in the first ODI, which saw him getting dismissed early and stated that he learned from his mistake and rectified it in the second game.

"I spent a lot of time playing a lot of cricket in the subcontinent. Today I had to dig deep to tap into those skills. I needed to give myself an opportunity, in the first game I had a rush of blood and got out playing a poor shot. Today I made sure I had time to get in and get runs on the board to give the side a good score."

Apart from Jason Roy's century knock, Moeen Ali's quickfire innings of 42 off 35 balls and Curran's four-wicket haul were instrumental in England's massive win, while Jos Buttler's knock of 76 off 64 balls was equally significant. Jason Roy, heaping praise on them, stated:

"Unbelievable effort, the way Jos plays, we rotated the strike well and then the innings from Moeen and Sam was incredible. All those innings were very good. All three of those guys coming in and scoring freely was high skill. Very very happy." 


Roy Roars Back to Form 

Prior to this match, Jason Roy had been going through a rough patch with his form. In fact, he was dropped from England's T20 World Cup squad in 2021, which saw Alex Hales take his place as the opening batter, partnering with Jos Buttler at the top of the order.

The timing of Jason Roy's century in Bangladesh couldn't have been better, as the 50-over World Cup is just around the corner, slated to take place in India in September later this year. This knock would have surely given a much-needed boost to his confidence. 

Before this series, Bangladesh had been unstoppable in ODI cricket at home, winning seven consecutive bilateral series since losing to England 2-1 in 2016. They recently outperformed Rohit Sharma-led India in a three-match ODI series.
