BAN vs ENG: Roy's Ton Results in Bangladesh's 1st Series Loss in 8 Years

On the back of stunning performances from Jason Roy, Sam Curran and Adil Rashid, England defeated Bangladesh in the second ODI by 132 runs to seal the three-match series with one game to go.

Bangladesh forced the visitors to bat first. Skipper Tamim Iqbal wasted no little time introducing spin in the game, starting with left-arm spinners at both ends. Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam both put pressure on England's opening combination of Jason Roy and Phil Salt. While the pressure was built by the spinners with the new ball, it was Taskin Ahmed, who made the first breakthrough as Phil Salt found the slip fielder. Hero of the first ODI- Dawid Malan (11) and James Vince (5) fell cheaply.
England were in a spot of bother once with the loss of the two quick wickets. In-walked captain Jos Buttler, who looked determined for a big one. Roy and Buttler negated the spin threat well and took calculative risks to put England back on top. After missing out on the last game, Roy helped himself by scoring his 12th ODI hundred with a measured pull shot.
The hallmark of his innings was the way he used the sweep shots against the quality spin attack of Bangladesh. Shakib trapped Roy in front of the wickets to end his 132-run innings and a 109-run partnership with Buttler. Big-hitting Will Jacks couldn't do much damage as he departed for a single-digit score.
Jos Buttler kept on attacking the bowlers like he normally does in the slog overs before handing a catch back to Mehidy Hasan Miraz to get out for 76 off 64 balls. Quick-fire cameos from Moeen Ali (42) and Sam Curran (33) helped England post a daunting total of 326 on a challenging wicket.

Bangladesh needed to score at a rate of 6.54 runs per over to record their highest successful chase and level the three-match ODI series. However, Current had some other plans for the home side. In the first over of the second innings, Curran rocked the top-order of Bangladesh, dismissing Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto. Mushfiqur Rahim was Sam Curran's third victim in his first spell. The home side was reduced to 9/3.
Skipper Tamim Iqbal and veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan joined hands as they set things right with a measured partnership. But with both batters taking their time, the asking rate kept increasing. Tamim tried to break the shackles but he was outfoxed by Moeen Ali to depart for 35. Spinners, particularly Adil Rashid kept mounting the pressure and this forced a well-set Shakib to commit a mistake as he chipped one towards mid-off shortly after getting to his fifty.
After Shakib's departure, Rashid took the onus on himself to clean the lower-order, ending with 4/45 to hasten the finish. Eventually, the hosts were skittled out for just 194 inside 45 overs as England won the game by 132 runs to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series.
