Glenn Maxwell's time on the field from a long layoff has been cut short following his wrist injury during his Sheffield Shield outing last week. Playing for Victoria in their match against South Australia, Maxwell injured his wrist while fielding in the slip cordon.

Maxwell was picked in the 16-man squad for Australia's three-match One-Day International series in India, which starts March 17 after the completion of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

Victoria coach Chris Rogers, speaking to the media today, confirmed that the star all-rounder will miss the match against New South Wales after his injury flared up and will head for his ODI preparations.

Here's what Rogers said

“Glenn Maxwell’s injury has flared, enough for him to take precaution and prepare for the one-day series. He won’t play.”

Maxwell suffered a freak leg injury last year, which forced him to sit out of cricketing action, missing out on the Big Bash League (BBL) and a potential Indian Test tour.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore player in his comeback Shield match scored 5 and 0, respectively, in his side's 177-run victory.

It has been a torrid last few months for the dashing all-rounder. He had high hopes of being included in the Australian squad for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series but was dashed due to a near-career-ending injury that kept him away from the game.
