Like every other sport, cricket also involves transition, as the superstars sign off with newcomers filling in their shoes someday. However, the transition should be as smooth as possible for the team's betterment.

Speaking of the Indian team, many current players- Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara- are in the twilight of their career and hence will soon bid adieu to international cricket.

Meanwhile, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer believes that Shreyas Iyer could be the ablest successor for Pujara in the Indian Test side.

Analysing on his YouTube channel, Jaffer reckoned that Iyer's aggression and experience of batting at number three for Mumbai makes him an automatic choice for Pujara's replacement going forward.

Here's what Jaffer stated

"I think Shreyas Iyer is the best option to succeed Cheteshwar Pujara at No.3. He has batted at No.3 for Mumbai and he is an attacking batter. If someone can come in at No.3 and score intently, putting the bowlers on the backfoot will do India a lot of good. Pujara has been brilliant at No.3."

Meanwhile, both Pujara and Iyer have had torrid times with the bat in the ongoing home Test series against Australia, managing 39 and 16 runs, respectively.

They continued their poor run in the third Test in Indore; while Pujara got out for one, Iyer couldn't open his account.  As of writing, India are reeling at 82 for seven in 25 overs.
