While the Indian think-tank might still be pondering about Shubman Gill's inclusion in the Indore Test, former Indian player and coach Ravi Shastri has said that the opener's time is now and here.

Gill, despite being in rich form across formats over the past few months, finds himself warming the Indian bench for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, where former vice-captain KL Rahul is being preferred.

Speaking to ICC Review, Shastri stated that Gill's current form should be used and be given a well-deserved chance to play the third Test against Australia, which starts tomorrow.

Here's what Shastri said

"He (Gill) is that good at the moment and whether he scores or doesn’t score, on form, on merit, he deserves a chance. When you have a player that confident and then his performances off late and the way he's batted – there'll be a lot of players in that team thinking within themselves ‘How’s this guy not playing?’

"They must be thinking, to be honest, it's like that, the dressing room. I know that dressing room. They'll be feeling ‘Gee man, this guy is hot'."

Rahul has managed just 38 runs across two Tests and is facing criticism from former players and fans about getting favoured in the XI.

The 1983 World Cup-winning player added that the team should be built around performances and that sometimes giving a player a short break is better in tough times.

Meanwhile, India who lead the BGT 2-0, will look to win the Indore Test as well, and book a ticket to the final of the ICC World Test Championship, taking place in England in June.
