Australia's Test batting revolves around Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, however in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, Indian bowlers namely — Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja — have managed to keep them shackled.

Former pacer and legend Glenn McGrath believes that an over reliance on both Smith and Labuschagne is one of the main reasons behind their downfall in India this series, where they trail 0-2.

Labuschagne has scored 119 runs, while Smith has managed just 71, so far in BGT 2023.

As per NEWS18, McGrath, who is the director of coaching at the MRF Pace Foundation, said that Australia would do well to avoid a 4-0 whitewash before returning home.

Here's what McGrath said

“I think they’re relying too much on (Steve) Smith and Marnus (Labuschagne) at the moment. Travis Head has had a really good year as well. The whole batting line-up has to stand up,

"Australia has a long way to turn things around. If they leave the shores with the scoreline not being 4-0, I think they would have done well."

The former World Cup winner explained that the Australian batters have not understood how to bat on Indian pitches, which showed in both Nagpur and Delhi, where they were defensive in the first Test, and in the second they got too aggressive.

The third Test gets underway tomorrow in Indore, with Smith leading Australia in the absence of Pat Cummins, however, both Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green are available for selection.
