Islamabad United's hard-hitting batter Azam Khan has been the toast of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023, after his match-winning performance against Quetta Gladiators on Friday.

Khan smashed a 42-ball 97, which included eight towering sixes and nine fours in his side's thumping 63-run win over his former franchise.

Azam's ability to hit sixes at will is being compared to India's Suryakumar Yadav, who has taken T20 international cricket by storm. Owning to lack of runs, and fitness Khan was dropped from Pakistan T20I squad after playing just three matches last year.

However, the 34-year-old in an interview with pak.tv, explained that he takes inspiration from Australia's Tim David over Yadav.

Interesingly, both David and Yadav play for the Mumbai Indians franchise in Indian Premier League.

David rose through the T20 leagues and finds himself a crucial member of Australia's white-ball side, having played the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Here's what Azam stated

"The position I bat at, you know the situationmore inspired from Tim David nowadays is quite difficult. Either the score is about 40 for four or 180 or 160 for two, so then you need to go and finish the match. It is a really difficult role.

"But I am more inspired from Tim David nowadays. He hits big shots and I know and understand his batting role because I play at the same position. Suryakumar often plays one down which is like top order."

With 166 runs, Khan is the eighth-highest run-getter in PSL 8 and will take the field for United this evening in a clash against defending champions Lahore Qalandars.
