Former Pakistan cricketer, Shahid Afridi, has made some interesting revelations regarding the Quetta Gladiators team and their current predicament in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8.

In a recent interview with a local TV channel, Afridi disclosed that he had advised the team's owner, Nadeem Omar, to relieve Sarfaraz Ahmed of his captaincy duties. The Pakistan veteran opined that Sarfaraz, the wicketkeeper-batter of the team, would perform better as a batter if he was not weighed down by the added responsibilities of leading the side.

The former all-rounder also criticized the team's management for their questionable player selection in the PSL 2023 draft. Furthermore, the erstwhile Gladiators player expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance in the ongoing season, lamenting their lack of preparation and indecisiveness in team selection.

Afridi criticized the team's constant rotation of players and questioned the rationale behind the inclusion of Umar Akmal in the squad. According to him, the team's lack of seriousness in the drafting process was evident in their failure to adequately assess Akmal's fitness.

Quetta Gladiators have not performed up to their full potential in the ongoing PSL 2023, currently occupying the bottom spot in the points table with only one win in their first five games. The Sarfaraz Ahmed-led unit really needs to make a significant overhaul in its planning going forward.

It remains to be seen whether the team can turn their fortunes around in the remainder of the season. The Gladiators will next take on Lahore Qalandars in Match 18 of PSL 2023 on Thursday, March 1 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
