The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon has confirmed that the rumours of a rift between Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal are true. Media has been speculating a falling-out between the two Bangladeshi legends for a while, and it was only recently confirmed by the BCB boss during his interview with Cricbuzz.

BCB President says Tamim-Shakib rift impacting dressing room atmosphere

BCB President Hassan has said that the rift between the two Bangladeshi national captains has been an issue for quite some time. He added that he will be taking it upon himself to sort out the matter between the two cricketers. However, he claimed that he might find it difficult to completely resolve the rift considering the issues at hand.

Hassan further claimed that since the two players are widely idolised in Bangladesh, their dispute is impacting the atmosphere of the team dressing room. He said:

“This is not a healthy dressing room; this I can guarantee you. This thing between Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal is not something I have not tried to sort it out. I have spoken with both of them and I felt that it is not easy to settle those issues at the moment,”

The BCB President said that he will look to mend at least the team’s dressing room atmosphere before Bangladesh’s upcoming home series against reigning ODI and T20I World Champions England.

“The atmosphere of the dressing room was bad too, but it improved a bit. From this series, I want to change it in the dressing room at least. What they do outside is not a concern for me.”

The England team is set to face Bangladesh across Mirpur and Chittagong between March 1 and March 14. The two nations will engage in a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.
