The Lahore and Rawalpindi leg of PSL 2023 is set to go ahead as scheduled. Earlier, there were reports of shifting the matches from the two venues to Karachi due to a deadlock between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Punjab government. However, the standoff between the board and the government is expected to end today.

Interim government confirms PSL 2023 matches will not be shifted

Dr. Javed Akram, the Minister of Health from the interim Punjab government, recently confirmed to Express News that PSL 2023 matches will not be shifted to Karachi.

The Punjab government had demanded PKR500 million from the PCB for hosting the second half of the PSL 2023 tournament. In return, the board has paid PKR50 million so far, for expenses of food.

With the government demanding for the remaining amount, the board had considered shifting these matches to Karachi in order to save on expenses.

However, as per sources, both the board and the government have decided to be flexible on those expenses in order to keep the matches in Lahore and Rawalpindi. About sixty percent of the bill amount will be paid by the government and the remaining amount will be handled by the PCB.

The representatives from both parties are expected to resolve the matter.

The Lahore and Rawalpindi leg of PSL 2023 is scheduled to commence from February 26 with a match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi in Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The playoffs stage, set to be played between March 15 and March 19, will also be played out in Lahore.
