After being in trouble on the field while leading his side Australia which succumbed to two consecutive defeats against the Indian team, Australian skipper Pat Cummins returned home to attend to his mother who fell seriously ill.

The pace bowler has been outstanding for the side in the past few years where he has led the pace attack of his side. The right-armer apart from being the lead bowler is captain of the side as well after being handed the responsibility right before the Ashes previously.

However, former Australian Ian Healy has made a surprising remark on Pat Cummins' future in the side. The 58-year-old expressed that he wants Cummins to quit captaincy and become a full-fledged pacer in the long run as the burden is getting heavier on him.

“I don’t want him carrying the burden of so much captaincy for too long. I want him to finish (as just a bowler),”

He further mentioned that he expects someone else to lead the side as a few more years in the capacity of skipper would put some unnecessary pressure on him.

“The captaincy creates a burnout and four to five years is a long time as a captain. He’s done a few years (as Test captain) already, now he’s adding (short-form captaincy) to his thought processes at a time when he’s dealing with some sort of family illness back home,"

“So yeah, I would like to see him finish his career as a tearaway fast bowler and someone else with the captaincy burden.”

Cummins have flown back home and won't be available for the next game, with Steve Smith returning to lead the side in his absence.
