South Africa opening batter Laura Wolvaardt has reached the mark of 1,000 runs in the T20Is. She achieved this feat in the Proteas women's T20 World Cup semi-final game against England women's team on Friday (January 24) at Cape Town.

Batting first, South Africa got off to a bright start with the opening duo of Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits.  The duo added 96 runs in 13.4 overs before Wolvaardt was dismissed for a well-compiled 53 off 44, comprising five fours and a six.

Afterwards, Brits finished on 68 off 55, while Marizanne Kapp provided a quickfire cameo of 27 off 13 to help South Africa post 164 on the board. Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers with three scalps for England.

Coming back to Wolvaardt, the 23-year-old has emerged to be one of the most reliable run-scorers for Proteas team. In 51 T20Is, she now has 1,018 runs in 48 innings, with five fifties to her name.

On the other hand, the Cape Town-native has 3,193 runs in 80 ODIs at an average of 45.61, with 29 fifties and three tons.

At the time of publishing, England were 40 without loss after the end of four overs.
