Nobody Can Overtake James Anderson In Tests, Reckons Michael Atherton

James Anderson is already an all-time great and requires no validation from others, as his performances speak for themselves.

A veteran of 179 Tests for England, Anderson is the third-highest wicket-taker in red-ball cricket with 682 and is only behind Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne.

Former England player Michael Atherton believes that Anderson will finish with over 700 Test scalps, something no other fast bowler can achieve in the future.

Anderson, 40, is playing his 179th Test for the Three Lions since debuting in 2003. To prolong his Test career, Anderson opted not to play white-ball cricket in 2015.

In his column for The Times, Atherton lauded Anderson's longevity and said his record would be unmatched for future fast bowlers.

Here's what Atherton stated

"He will probably pass 700 Test wickets before he is done and no fast bowler will ever get close to that again. Records are there to be broken; faster, stronger, higher and all that, but I have absolute conviction that Anderson’s record, as yet unfinished and incomplete, will never be broken. As long as Test cricket is played (which may not be that long, hence part of the certainty) Anderson will stand tall, looking down on the rest."

Anderson will most likely be seen in action on Day 2 of the Wellington Test, where England are 315 for three at stumps on Day 1.
