'The Bowler Is Not The Villain Here'- Kumar Sangakkara On Run-Out At Non-Striker's End

The run-out dismissal at the non-striker's end by bowlers is a grey area that most players find uncomfortable inflicting, despite being completely within the laws and rules of cricket defined by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

The MCC on Thursday made it clear that they want the mode of dismissal to be normalised across age-group cricket and that people should start accepting it without talking about the spirit of the game.

It is widely recognised as 'Mankading', coined after former India all-rounder Vinoo Mankad. The World Cricket Committee (WCC) of the MCC, chaired by Mike Gatting, said that the bowler is not obligated to warn the batter and can be dismissed on the first occasion.

Committee member and former Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara further stated that no bowler should be vilified for dismissing the batter if he/she backs too much to sneak in a quick single.

Here's what Sangakkara said

"The bowler is not the villain here. Every batter has a choice; to stay in their ground, or risk being given out if they try to steal ground. If they choose the latter, they are the ones who are breaking the Law."

Other players on the WCC committee include former international captains like Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting, Sir Alastair Cook, Graeme Smith, Suzie Bates and Ramiz Raja.
