Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named former batter Neil McKenzie as a batting consultant for the senior men's national Test side for their upcoming series against West Indies.

The Proteas, led by new skipper Temba Bavuma and head coach Shukri Conrad, will play a short two-Test series against the visiting Windies side starting February 28.

McKenzie's appointment is temporary, as CSA will name a suitable candidate for a permanent role later. He has played 58 Tests and 64 ODIs for South Africa.

Joining McKenzie will be former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Kruger van Wyk, who has been hired as a full-time Test fielding coach by CSA, replacing Justin Ontong.

This series will also be Charl Langeveldt's last assignment as South Africa's bowling coach before Piet Botha takes over.

Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, CSA Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe welcomed the batting great into the set-up.

Here's what Nkwe said

"We would like to thank Neil for his commitment to the series as the tenure is completed. He and Shukri have a good working relationship, having previously trained together at SA Under-19 level and we look forward to them joining forces for the first series in a new era for the Test team."

Others in the backroom staff include Matthew Reuben, Sizwe Hadebe, Runeshan Moodley, and Craig Govender.
