Australian allrounder, Mitchell Marsh, was unable to partake in the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India owing to his decision to undergo surgery in order to assuage the persistent discomfort in his left ankle.

The 31-year-old versatile athlete had been out of action for three months following a keyhole surgery that entailed the removal of erratic bone fragments and repair of cartilage.

Having recuperated from the injury, Marsh has secured a place in the Australian squad for the three-match One Day International (ODI) series against India. The upcoming high-octane series is scheduled to commence on the 17th of March in Mumbai.

In a recent press conference held ahead of the series, Marsh expounded upon the prospect of playing in India and conveyed his unbridled enthusiasm to learn and assimilate something new during each visit to the country.

Marsh affirmed that it is always an exhilarating experience to play in India. He further mentioned that he, along with his teammates, has had the opportunity to play cricket in India frequently, and every visit allows them to learn something new and taste different cuisines.

The West Australian cricketer also expressed his hope that the team would play great cricket during the series. He also noted that this year was significant for the team since the World Cup was scheduled for later in the year, and playing cricket in India would aid in determining the team's progress.

The lanky Australian had endured recurring issues pertaining to his left ankle, with the persistent discomfort almost jeopardizing his participation in the T20 World Cup campaign that was held on his home soil.

Although he was not selected in Australia's home Test squad that was scheduled to take on the West Indies, he was still a traveling member of the Australian team that embarked on a two-match series against Sri Lanka in July. It is worth noting that Marsh has not played a Test match since the 2019 Ashes.

The return of this prodigious allrounder to the international fold is eagerly anticipated. Australia's lacklustre performances thus far on this tour to India will be heavily dependent on Marsh's form and contributions during the forthcoming ODI series.
