Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has shared some observations on the performance of Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi during the ongoing season of the Pakistan Super League.

The former cricketer believes that Shaheen needs to make better use of the bowling crease and bowl closer to the stumps to bring the ball back in.

During the Qalandars' recent match against Karachi Kings on Sunday, the promising pacer conceded 39 runs in his four-over spell while taking only one wicket. The Qalandars ultimately lost the match by 67 runs to their arch-rivals.

In an interview with a local TV channel, the Pakistan veteran said that he had observed the pacer’s performance and had also spoken to him about it. He emphasized that bowling too far away from the stumps made it challenging to bring the ball back in, and that it was essential to use the crease to advantage.

The legendary all-rounder cited former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram as an example of a bowler who had used this technique successfully. He urged the Qalandars’ skipper to watch videos of his previous bowling performances to identify and rectify his mistakes.

Regarding his performance in the death overs, Afridi stated that the young left-arm pacer was trying too hard and attempting too many yorkers, which resulted in full tosses and sixes being scored against him. The 45-year old advised the speedster to remember the process that had helped him perform well in the past and to correct his mistakes himself by analyzing his own videos.

The seasoned cricketer’s advice may prove valuable for Shaheen, who is considered one of Pakistan's most promising young bowlers. With PSL 2023 ongoing, the young seamer will have the opportunity to put the veteran’s advice into practice and improve his performances for the Qalandars.
