A determined Team India will be facing familiar nemesis Australia in the first semi-final match-up of the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup. Notably, the two sides also clashed in the final of the 2020 event, where hosts Australia flattened the ‘Women in Blue’ to bag their fifth silverware.

Up against tournament favourites and haunted by past demons, Indian wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh has expressed her confidence of upstaging the defending champions on the big stage.

Under-19 star says Australia is beatable

Richa Ghosh recently stated that defending champions Australia are indeed beatable and India stands a good chance of winning the semi-final. She added that the team which turns up mentally stronger on the field would eventually win and the players are actively improving their mindset. Ghosh said:

“Australia are beatable. They are a strong team but we can beat them. We are trying to improve our mindset. Everyone has the game but the team that is mentally strong will win. We have been working on that.”

The youngster, who won the ICC Under-19 World Cup title for India last month, claimed that defeating Australia in a semi-final would be a huge confidence booster before the title clash.

Team India hosted Australia in a five-match T20I series last December. However, the hosts ended up losing it 1-4. The two teams also faced each other in a warm-up game prior to the tournament. Australia comfortably won that contest by 44 runs, and have been on a rampant run since then.

The much-awaited semi-final between the two nations will be played out in Cape Town on February 23 and the action will commence from 6:30 PM onwards.
