The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lifted the life ban on former Rajasthan Royals cricketer Ajit Chandila, reducing it to seven years.

The ban was imposed on Chandila, along with S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan, for their alleged involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal.

The BCCI had also suspended franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years after their officials were accused of betting.

Chandila, an off-spinner, had played in 12 IPL matches and taken 11 wickets before his career was marred by allegations of spot-fixing. He had also bagged a hattrick for the franchise.

The order read:

"The present matter arises out of Case Crime No 20/2013 dated 09.05.2013 registered with the Special Cell of Delhi Police against the Applicant on allegations of spot fixing in cricket matches of Indian Premier League."

Sreesanth, who played for Kerala in the Ranji Trophy, India’s premier domestic red-ball tournament, has made a successful return to professional cricket.

Meanwhile, Chavan, who also returned to competitive cricket last year for Karnataka Sporting Association in the T20 Talim Shield, is determined to continue playing the sport.

All three players were cleared of all charges by the court in 2019. The recent decision by the BCCI has given Chandila hope for his future in the sport.
