KL Rahul might need some time off and come back fresh for the ODIs, feels Dinesh Karthik

Team India's persistence with KL Rahul in the playing XI has drawn extreme reactions from former players and fans.

Rahul, struggling to get into any form, has averaged 25.82 in Tests since 2018, while in-form player like Shubman Gill are warming the bench despite plundering runs.

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has said that Rahul will get dropped eventually, however, not because of the BGT series, but because of his performance in over five to six Tests.

Interestingly, Karthik, speaking to cricbuzz, suggested that Rahul take some time off and return refreshed for the three-match ODI series, which begins next month.

Here's what Karthik said

"But he would also know that if he is going to be dropped for the remaining matches, which is pretty much an eventuality, it is not because of this one innings. It is because of what has happened and transpired over the last five or six Test matches,

"He is a class player and is very good in all formats. But at this point in time, I don't think it's the technique. I think it's because of what happens between the ears that's really troubling him. He might need some time off from the game to go back and come back fresh for the ODIs,”

Both Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid have backed Rahul to come good despite his lacklustre outings.

The 30-year-old was removed as India's vice-captain for the final two Tests against Australia, as the BCCI announced an unchanged squad last week.

The third Test starts on March 1 in Indore, with the hosts leading the series 2-0.
