With some heavy windfall for women's cricket in the past few months, the Women's Premier League (WPL) has received a major shot in the arm as the BCCI has signed a major name for title sponsorship rights of the league.

Tata group, which sponsors men's Indian Premier League (IPL) has grabbed the title rights for the next five years of the tournament set to be played from 4th March to 26th March in Mumbai.

The news is expected to become official in a day or two as the formal announcement from the board will take place once the deal is inked.

It is expected that Tata Motors and Tata financial services are the products that are most likely to be promoted by the company during the 22-day long tournament.

BCCI released the tender last month which was last up for sale till 9th February with some of the other entities apart from Tata showing interest as well.

However, the value of the deal could not be ascertained but it is expected to be another blockbuster for the much-hyped league.

Previously, BCCI sold all five teams of the league for a combined heavy value of ₹4670 Crores from which three were already a part of the men's league.

To the unversed, the broadcaster of the league was already signed as the Viacom18 group shelled out ₹951 Crore for the five-year contract that will begin with the upcoming season.

With Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals having their respective teams, the new owners Capri Global and Adani Group bagged Lucknow and Gujarat franchises, respectively.

The official representatives refrained from commenting on the matter but some of the stakeholders confirmed the development to Cricbuzz.

Further, the recent WPL auction was indication of how much attention this league is attracting as some of the big names from women's cricket showed interest to take part in the league.
