Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has praised the 22-year-old off-spinner Todd Murphy for his performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, expressing his confidence in the youngster's potential to become Australia's leading Test spinner.

The spin sensation has taken ten wickets in the first two matches of the series, including a seven-wicket haul on his Test debut.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Lee said that Murphy had made an excellent start to his career and that he had shown great skill and potential during the series.

The former speedster also expressed his confidence in the youngster's ability to perform well in the tough playing conditions of India, saying that he hoped the Border-Gavaskar Trophy would be just the first chapter of an epic career for the young off-spinner.

The Aussie veteran stated that the Victorian's performances had put him in contention to succeed Nathan Lyon as Australia's leading Test spinner.

Lyon has taken more wickets than any other Australian off-spinner and is widely regarded as one of the country's greatest spin bowlers.

However, at 34 years old, the veteran tweaker's international career may be entering its twilight years, and Murphy's impressive performances could signal a changing of the guard in Australian cricket.

The legendary pacer's praise for Murphy's debut in Nagpur was effusive, as he noted that Murphy had impressed against some of India's best batters, including KL Rahul, Ravi Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.

He also hoped that the 22-year-old would continue to perform well in the tough series ahead and become Australia's leading Test spinner.

The third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled to take place on March 1 in Indore, and Murphy is expected to feature prominently in the Australian line-up. If he continues to perform well, he could become a key player for the team in the years to come.
