After sacking opener KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the Test side midway through the Australia series, the new deputy of the side will be decided by the leader Rohit Sharma.

The news was reported by the Indian Express, who mentioned that the selectors left it to the skipper as they felt Sharma is the right person to pick the replacement.

Rahul's removal was based on the fact that his low scores were giving some headache to the management, all of whom, especially Rohit and coach Rahul Dravid, later insisted that they would continue to back the right-hander through this lean phase.

A source related to the development revealed

“It was decided not to name any vice-captain. Instead the power was given to Rohit Sharma. Who will lead the side in case he has to leave the field is Rohit Sharma’s call.”

India announced their squad for the third and fourth Test along with the ODI squad yesterday where this decision was made by the selection committee headed by Shiv Sunder Das.

Moreover, Rahul's place is questioned ever since he has not been able to perform consistently in the recent past as his scores in the second game were 17 & 1.

India's third Test against Australia begins on the 1st of March to be played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
