New Zealand star all-rounder Kyle Jamieson is set to undergo a second surgery on his back after relapsing his old injury last week. Jamieson will be under the knife this week and forcing him out of action for at least four months, with no time frame being set for a comeback.

The lanky player was in-line to make an international return against England in the Pink-Ball Test last week, but his injury flared up, where detailed reports confirmed a stress fracture.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead confirmed the same and wished Jamieson well while speaking to the media after his side's embarrassing 267-run loss at Mount Maunganui.

Here's what Stead confirmed

"Kyle has seen a back surgeon and is getting surgery later in the week. “It’s been a challenging and difficult time for Kyle and a big loss for us. He has been fantastic when he has been around all of our sides when he has been part of them.

So we just wish him well, and we will know more in about three to four months about what that end prognosis looks like for him.”

Jamieson, 28, made an instant mark in Test cricket, picking up 72 wickets in just 16 red-ball appearances.

The Auckland-born picked up a back injury last year on the England tour and has since been out of action.

In all likelihood, Jamieson will miss the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, where he was purchased by the Chennai Super Kings.

Stead also confirmed that pacer Matt Henry will replace Jacob Duffy in the second Test, which begins on February 24.
