Dominant batting performance, followed by a disciplined outing in the second innings helped Karachi Kings to beat Lahore Qalandars by 67 runs in Match 8 of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) at National Stadium in Karachi. Karachi Kings finally opened their account with their first win of the season in their fourth outing.

Imad Wasim late blitz powered Kings to a formidable total

After being asked to bat first, Karachi Kings got off to a flying start, scoring at more than ten runs per over in the first six overs. The Kings were 61 for none at the end of the powerpay, with Matthew Wade leading the charge by striking at more than 150, before getting involved in an unfortunate run-out in the eight over.

The openers laid the foundation for the following batters but Lahore kept taking wickets at regular intervals after the powerplay. The likes of Haider Ali, Shoaib Malik got out while trying to score briskly. James Vince, who was playing second fiddle to Wade, kept holding one end but was soon sent back by Zaman Khan before the slogging overs.

With things seeming to be falling apart, Imad Wasim played a brilliant cameo of unbeaten 19-ball 35 at the end to take Kings’ total past the 180 mark. He was well complimented by Ben Cutting at the other end and Karachi Kings posted a formidable 185 for 5.

Chasing 186, Lahore Qalandars got off to a good start, hitting regular boundaries early in the powerplay, but was soon halted by a couple of cheap overs as Qalandars could only manage 47 off the first six overs and lost two crucial wickets, including Fakhar Zaman.

Kamran Ghulam, at four, joined Mirza Tahir Baig and the duo tried to stitch a partnership in the middle. Mirza, who got off to a great start in the powerplay, could not really get going in his innings as he ended his struggling stay against Akif Javed, leaving Qalandars with almost 100 runs behind with less than eight overs remaining.

Akif Javed went on to remove the other set batter, Kamran two deliveries after and Lahore started to lose control from the game. With the asking rate going over fourteen, the visitors further lost Hussain Talat and David Wiese before the slogging overs. Sikandar Raza did try to bring his side back in the chase, but was soon sent back Cutting.

Karachi managed to bowl out Lahore for 118 and registered their first win of the season. Akif came back into the attack and finished with 4 for 28.
