Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has set a new world record for the most T20 World Cup matches played in history.

In the match against South Africa on February 18, Perry surpassed the previous record held by Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has played 39 matches in T20 World Cups.

Perry’s match against South Africa marked her 40th appearance in the tournament, making her one of the few players to have participated in every edition of the T20 World Cup.

The Australian all-rounder, who earlier in the tournament became the first cricketer from her country to score over 1500 runs and take over 100 wickets in T20Is, has been a key player for Australia in their campaign so far.

Under the leadership of Meg Lanning, the team has won their first four matches against New Zealand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and South Africa, thus becoming the first side to qualify for the semi-finals.

In the first three games, the Aussie veteran got the opportunity to bat only once against New Zealand. However, it was enough for Perry as she made an impact, scoring 40 runs at a remarkable strike-rate of 181.81.

The 32-year old got a chance to open against South Africa in the absence of Alyssa Healy. However, Perry couldn't make merry of the opportunity as she departed after scoring 8 off 11 balls with two boundaries.

The Australian stalwart has also been impressive with the ball, taking three wickets from six overs with an economy rate of 5.00

With her outstanding performances for Australia over the years, Perry has cemented her place as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the game.
