Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has permitted Karachi to continue to host the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 8 matches despite the terrorist attack on a city's police station last evening.

As the players and officials will stay under presidential security during PSL 2023, Sethi approved Karachi as a safe venue to host the games.

With the fixtures happening across as many as four cities this season, there were rumours that the matches could be shifted out of Karachi after the terrorist attack.

“The HBL PSL 8 will continue as planned after it has been established and confirmed that Friday’s incident was an isolated one, which was unrelated to cricket. We have been working very closely with all stakeholders, including the local and foreign security experts, who have provided assurances and comfort that the event can proceed as there was no threat to cricket."

Another board official backed Sethi's decision as he called the incident 'unrelated' to the PSL.

"The incident which happened yesterday is unrelated to the PSL."

Meanwhile, Karachi is bracing for the blockbuster weekend as its home team has matches scheduled against Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars on 18th and 19th February respectively.

Having lost their initial two games, Karachi Kings are second last on the points table.
