India batter KL Rahul is at the wrong side of form with his performances in every format taking a steep dip ever since returning from an injury in the 2022 Asia Cup.

Rahul's sporadic run in Indian colours has not done him any favour as the inconsistency tag has kept his position vulnerable every now and then.

The Test opener of India has not fared well in the red-ball format too lately as he has been able to record only a single 50-plus score in his last 11 innings, averaging around 17 since 2022.

To make matters worse for the 30-year-old, Shubman Gill, who is touted as India's next big-ticket player, is forced to wait on the wings.

With Rahul's list of failures expanding to the ongoing Delhi Test as he departed after scoring 17 runs, Twitterati reacted strongly, chiding him for his constant poor returns.

While the clock seems to be ticking fast for Rahul, he will likely have at least one more chance to prove his worth. Although the second innings will pose an even tougher challenge for the batters.

At lunch on Day 2, India reel at 88/4. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are unbeaten at 14 and 15 runs respectively.
