On Thursday, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) announced the appointment of former Mumbai player and coach Sulakshan Kulkarni as head coach of the senior men's state team for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.

Kulkarni's appointment comes in after TNCA's Cricket Advisory Committee meeting last evening.

Kulkarni will take over from Margashayam Venkataramana, who was with Tamil Nadu since 2021.

Interestingly, TNCA did approach former Ranji Trophy-winning coach Chandrakant Pandit for the role, but the coaching stalwart was unavailable for the job.

Tamil Nadu had a poor domestic season this year, having missed out on the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, they made it to the quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The 56-year-old coached Mumbai to a Ranji Trophy title back in the 2012-13 edition, during his three-year term.

The wicketkeeper-batter played 65 First-Class matches, scoring 3,332 runs, which include six centuries. Behind the wickets, he inflicted 122 catches and 21 stumpings.

Kulkarni's credentials include coaching stints with Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh state sides and Nepal's national men's cricket team.
