Lahore Qalandars' skipper, Shaheen Afridi, has expressed his astonishment at the recent comments made by Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir regarding the national team's captain, Babar Azam.

In a recent interview with a local channel, Amir had stated that his primary objective is to take wickets and secure victories for his team, and therefore, he does not differentiate between facing Babar or a tailender at number 10.

Responding to the Karachi Kings’ speedster’s statements, Afridi emphasized the importance of respecting Babar as he is widely regarded as one of the finest batsmen in the world. He stated that in any cricketing arena, the Pakistan skipper is referred to as a "king," and therefore, it is inappropriate to address him in such a dismissive manner.

"He [Amir] said that about Babar. That is surprising. If you go to any place and if Babar is playing against any team, they will refer to Babar Azam as ‘king’. So I think this is not the right way to address Babar," Shaheen said on a local TV channel.

Shaheen also reiterated that Babar is their number one player and the team's captain, and as such, he should be highly respected by all the players in the team because if they don’t do that why would anyone else do it. The 22-year old lanky bowler emphasized that failure to give him the necessary respect would not only be detrimental to the team's performance but would also set a wrong precedent for the rest of the cricketing world.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023, the Peshawar Zalmi captain demonstrated his prowess with the bat, scoring a match-winning 68 runs against the Karachi Kings, thereby launching his team's campaign on a high note. In contrast, Mohammad Amir had a forgettable game, failing to take any wickets and conceding 42 runs in his four overs.
