In a significant development, BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma has stepped down from his role. On Friday, Sharma handed his resignation to BCCI secretary Mr Jay Shah.

Notably, renowned media house Zee news recently shocked the cricket fraternity by releasing the findings of a sting operation it secretly conducted on Sharma. After that, the Indian public was continuously demanding his axing.

In the released video, Sharma made plenty of shocking claims, revealing the spat between Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly that ended the former’s stint as the Indian captain.

He also disclosed how the Indian players, including some superstars, take injections and keep playing despite suffering from injuries.

Sharma, who represented India in the 1987 World Cup, also spoke on how the favouritism of selectors plays a role in team selection.

So, considering these statements, people were expecting the BCCI to take a disciplinary action against him anytime soon. And finally, the matter has been put to rest with his resignation.

Sharma had two separate stints as the BCCI chief selector, both marred by controversies.

His first tenure saw injury mismanagement and selection blunders that led to India’s humiliating semifinal exit from the T20 World Cup.

Following the team’s underwhelming World Cup campaign in Australia, Sharma and the other committee members were sacked.

However, he made a comeback as the chief selector after being re-elected for the role in January.
