Islamabad United got off to a winning start in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) competition after clinching a comfortable win over Karachi Kings.

For United, New Zealand's Colin Munro and Pakistan's Azam Khan starred in the chase after being in peril.

The pair added 56 runs for the fourth wicket in quick time, ensuring their side was never behind the run rate.

Awarded man of the match, Munro for his 58, the explosive batter exclaimed surprise over Azam's omission from the Pakistan national side in the post-match conference as reported by Cricket Pakistan.

Son of former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Moin Khan, Azam, himself a keeper-batter, is known for his brute hitting.  The 24-year-old played 3 T20Is for Pakistan last year before getting dropped from the white-ball teams.

Here's what Munro said

"Azam is amazing. I don’t know why he is not in the Pakistan team. A lot is spoken about his weight, but if he is one of the best batters in the country, why not get him in there?"

Azam has been in terrific form lately, smashing 226 runs in the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023, playing for Khulna Tigers.

Talking about his performance last evening Azam expressed delight and hoped to carry his rich form in the tournament.

"I was in form in Bangladesh Premier League, so I was just trying to carry that form for the team. We always play aggressive brand of cricket in Islamabad and that has been our strength."
