As confirmed on Thursday by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi, former head coach Mickey Arthur is set to be appointed Pakistan's new team director.

Arthur coached the Men in Green between 2016 and 2019, helping them win the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.

As reported by India Today, Sethi said that Arthur would begin his work with the national side ahead of Pakistan's three-T20I series against Afghanistan next month. The 54-year-old's rapport with several members of the national side went in his favour.

The PCB chief also revealed that the final formalities would take place in a few days, and that team management would soon be announced in consultation with the new team director.

Here's what Sethi said

"Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed is working with Arthur to finalise the names of the support staff that will work with the national team. He knows our cricket culture and set-up and is respected by the players. As soon as things are finalised, I will ask Mickey to fly down to Pakistan for a meet so that we can get things moving forward."

Arthur is currently working as the Head of Cricket for Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Former Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat is also in line to be named bowling coach. Arafat recently completed his Level 4 coaching course in England.
