Karachi Kings have roped in pacer Akif Javed as a replacement for bowler Mir Hamza for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 edition. Hamza has been ruled out of the ongoing tournament due to an injury that the left-arm bowler picked up during Karachi's opening encounter against Peshawar Zalmi.

Javed is a like-for-like replacement, who is known for his swing bowling and has been part of franchises like Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United in past editions of PSL.

He has claimed 33 T20 wickets in 31 matches, at a decent economy of 8.4.  The Kohat-born plays his First-Class and List-A cricket for Balochistan, 34 and 19 wickets, respectively.

Hamza, unfortunately, fractured the index finger of his bowling hand while attempting to stop Babar Azam's straight drive in his second over.

He managed just eight more deliveries in the match to end the match with figures of 1 for 13 from two overs.

The Kings suffered a narrow two-run loss against Zalmi, despite the best efforts from Shoaib Malik and Imad Wasim.

The Wasim-led Kings will take on Islamabad United, which will be captained by Shadab Khan tonight in their second match of the season.
