Cricket West Indies name Shai Hope and Rovman Powell as captains in white-ball cricket

In a significant development, Cricket West Indies has named two separate captains for ODIs and T20Is going forward.
On Wednesday, the board appointed experienced keeper-batter Shai Hope as the ODI captain, while announcing swashbuckling finisher Rovman Powell as the T20I captain.
In an era where every team is mulling over implementing split captaincy, West Indies have actually done it. Notably, Kraigg Brathwaite will continue to lead the team in Tests; so, the Caribbean Men now have three different leaders in each format.
In his reaction, Hope admitted to being privileged on captaining the team, which he dreamt of as a child.
"It is a tremendous honour and privilege to be appointed captain of any West Indies team. To lead a team that is of such incredible significance not only to myself and my teammates but to our legion of fans the world over, is something one dreams of as a child."
At the same time, Powell seemed determined to help the team reach unprecedented heights in the shortest format through his inspirational leadership.
"For me, this a huge vote of confidence and I see this as the greatest honour of my career. I'm a passionate cricketer who believes in leading from the front and always giving 100 per cent."
West Indies' next assignment will be a month-long tour of South Africa, where they will take on the hosts in two Tests, three ODIs and T20Is.
