The swashbuckling batting all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has been roped in by the Multan Sultans for Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023.

The Sultans suffered back-to-back blows in terms of injury concerns to their players. The right-arm pacer Shahnawaz Dahani was ruled out of the tournament after injuring his finger in the first game. In place of him, Mohammad Ilyas joined the squad.

Furthermore, Wayne Parnell could not be part of the tournament due to injury. The Caribbean all-rounder has been brought in as Parnell's replacement for rest of the season.

Brathwaite has played for Lahore Qalandars in 2019 and was a part of Sultans setup in the 2021 season. In the latest edition, he contributed with 29 runs and four wickets in five appearances.

In the last few years, the 34-year-old has focussed on franchise T20 leagues all around the world. In the Lanka Premier League 2022, Brathwaite emerged as the top wicket-taker with 18 scalps in eight games at an economy of 6.84.

The talented speedster finished with figures of 3/19 in the final of the International League T20 (ILT20) last week. His performance helped the Gulf Giants to lift the title of the inaugural season of the tournament.

In 246 T20s, Brathwaite has scalped 236 wickets and garnered 2302 runs. He is expected to be a key player for the Sultans due to his experience and current form.

Meanwhile, Multan could not get off to a winning start in the PSL 2023, as they lost to Lahore Qalandars by 1 run on Monday. They are currently playing against Quetta Gladiators in Multan.
