Team India have become the new number one ranked team in Tests (before ICC corrected the ranking), leapfrogging Australia, whom they defeated in the first Test by an innings and 132 runs.

In a bizarre situation, ICC has again changed the team's rating, dropping India a spot below Australia. Earlier in the month, the governing body did the same when India surpassed the Aussies in Test ranking before the ranking was corrected after a brief period.

The Rohit Sharma led side currently holds the number one ranking across all three formats. Barring a blip in the T20 World Cup and Asia Cup 2022, India have had a stellar 1.5 years and have continued their domination across formats.

Recently they thrashed Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the white-ball series, and won the first Test against Australia rather comfortably.

India's achievement means star players like Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin have gained big in the latest ICC Rankings. After a magnificent century against Australia in Nagpur, skipper Rohit Sharma has jumped from 10th to 8th in the Test rankings.

On a Nagpur track that assisted the spinners and was not an easy pitch to bat on, Rohit played some gorgeous strokes and his innings turned out to be the difference between the two sides.

India's spin maestro, Ravichandran Ashwin reaped reward for a fine Test match against the Aussies. He is on the brink of returning to the top of the ICC rankings, and could go past Pat Cummins if he continues the domination in the second Test match as well.

He is currently situated at the second spot, only 21 rating points behind Aussie skipper, Pat Cummins. Ashwin picked up 8 wickets in the Test match, including 5 for 37 in the second innings.

Apart from Ashwin, Axar Patel has risen in the Test all-rounders rankings. He made a significant contribution with the bat in Nagpur, scoring a gritty 84 that propelled India to go past the 400-run mark. As a result, he jumps six places to seventh in the all-rounders rankings.

After a disastrous first Test, Aussie opening duo of Usman Khawaja and David Warner have fallen in the pecking order. Khawaja has fallen down two places to 10th spot, after making only 1 and 5 in the first Test. On the other hand, Warner has fallen six places to 20th position in the Test rankings, after scoring just 1 and 10 in the Nagpur game.
