The Birmingham Bears have roped in Australia's talismanic all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for the 2023 T20 Blast season. Maxwell will join the Warwickshire County Cricket Club (WCCC) after the completion of the Indian Premier League season, which ends in May.

The 34-year-old had stints in clubs like Hampshire, Surrey, Yorkshire, and lastly with Lancashire back in 2019.

Maxwell is a two-time World Cup-winning player with Australia, having won the 50-overs trophy in 2015 and the 2021 20-overs title.

The explosive batter is currently nursing a freak leg injury, which forced him out of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23 as well, where he was supposed to lead the Melbourne Stars.

Bears coach Mark Robinson welcomed Maxwell into the side and expressed excitement over their new recruit.

Here's what Robinson said

"To get a player of this stature is something that really excites us. We're really excited to have somebody with his global reputation but also somebody that can help influence our younger players and help us grow as a team.

He's absolutely full-on. He's a competitor. And, with the bat, he wins matches - he doesn't take a backward step."

In the 377 T20Is, Maxwell has scored 8,451 runs at an astounding strike rate of 151.07, which includes five centuries and 47 fifties.

The Bears' second overseas player will be Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali, who will be available across the season for Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
