Motie flattens Zimbabwe with six-fer as WI claim series

West Indies’ spinner Gudakesh Motie carried his fine tune from the first innings to claim another six wickets on Day 3. As a result, hosts Zimbabwe were skittled out for just 173 to mark their second batting mishap of the match, and handed the visitors an innings victory inside three days of the series decider.
Gudakesh Motie takes six-fer, completes 13 wickets in match
West Indies tail did not hang around for long on Day 3, as they managed to add just two additional runs to their overnight score. Zimbabwean new-ball pacer Victor Nyauchi claimed both wickets to achieve a five-fer, his first ever in Test cricket.
Facing a first innings deficit of 177 runs, the hosts returned to bat at Bulawayo only to bow down in front of similar foe Gudakesh Motie for the second time in the match. The 27-year-old spinner collected six wickets in the innings, to add to his seven-fer from Day 1.
For Zimbabwe, opener Innocent Kaia’s 43 and skipper Craig Ervine’s 72 constituted much of the team’s mere 173-run effort, as they fell four runs short to force West Indies bat again.
Motie, for his 13-wicket match haul and 19 wickets across both Tests, was adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ as well as ‘Player of the Series’, as West Indies took home the two-match competition by 1-0.
