Indian skipper Rohit Sharma's white-ball laurels are unmatched, however, his red-ball abilities on most occasions have been overlooked feels teammate Dinesh Karthik

Karthik, who has played with Sharma since he first burst onto the scene back in 2007, said that Nagpur-born's talent as a red-ball opener is not celebrated much.

Sharma scored his ninth Test hundred last week in the first Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, helping India win the encounter over Australia.

This was Sharma's sixth Test hundred as an opener since moving to the opening position in 2019, which in many ways revived his red-ball career as well.

Karthik, speaking to Cricbuzz, stated that Sharma's batsmanship has changed since he moved into the top order.

"You can see, he enjoys batting. He relishes the opportunity to bat fast bowlers first up and then go on to play spinners. He is someone who is very special to India and I sometimes feel, he is not celebrated enough as a Test opener," Karthik opined.

"He has got a lot of credentials in white-ball format. People speak about his accolades in the white-ball format. But as a Test opener, he has been really good in the limited time that he has done it."

The 35-year-old will be in action for India, leading them against Australia in the Delhi Test starting on Friday.
