On Monday, Lahore Qalandars pipped Multan Sultans by a narrow one-run margin in the PSL 2023 opener to open their account in the points table.

Swashbuckling opener Fakhar Zaman hammered a sensational 42-ball 66, thereby helping the Qalandars register their first win of the season.

Besides winning the Qalandars the game, Zaman achieved a phenomenal batting milestone, as he breached the 2000-run mark in PSL history. He became only the second batter after Babar Azam to reach the landmark.

Most runs in PSL history

  • Babar Azam: 2413 Runs in 63 innings
  • Fakhar Zaman: 2005 Runs in 64 innings
  • Kamran Akmal: 1972 Runs in 74 innings
  • Shoaib Malik: 1882 Runs in 68 innings
  • Mohammad Hafeez: 1596 Runs in 68 innings

After making his T20 debut in 2013, Zaman has established himself as a sure-starter, both in the domestics and international level. Overall, the dynamic opener has a whopping 5073 runs to his name in 198 T20 appearances.

However, he has had a torrid time with the bat in T20Is of late, managing only 148 runs in his last eleven innings at a horrendous average of 13.45.

Thus, he would like to continue his prolific run in the PSL to make it into to the Pakistan T20I team, slated to take on New Zealand in a five-match series scheduled in April this year.
