The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shifted the venue of the upcoming third Test match between hosts India and the touring Australian party. Originally slated to be set at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, the match will now be played at Indore’s Holkar Stadium.

The Indian board announced the same on February 13, i.e., just a little over two weeks prior to the launch of a potentially crucial fixture. As per the statement, they made the decision due to the lack of sufficient grass present at the Himachal Pradesh-based venue.

Fans set to lose big over hotel reservations and flight cancellations

Hordes of Indian and visiting Australian fans gathered at Nagpur’s VCA Stadium across three days of the opening Test. The gripping Test rivalry between the two nations usually attracts crowds from both segments, and the trend was expected to continue in the remainder of the series.

As it turned out, the sudden shift in venue for the third match has caused fans to suffer much financial losses. According to reports, around 152 Australian fans are set to lose approximately A$3000, mainly due to last-minute ticket cancellations and hotel bookings.

As per Luke Sparrow, the head of Australian Cricket Tours (ACT), the picturesque sightings around Dharamshala’s HPCA Stadium attracted as many as 120 Australian fans to book their hotel and air tickets specifically for the match. Sparrow said:

“They still love coming to India. They will be going to Indore. It is unfortunate that each person (152) now has to spend extra A$3000 to get their accommodation and travel for Indore.”

In the meantime, the two teams are now gearing up for their next meeting, set for February 17 in Delhi. Australia, who lost the first match by an innings, will be hoping for a reboot in a bid to stay alive in the series
