Despite being a gifted batter, David Warner has been a perennial under-performer on Indian soil, often finding it tough to get going against the Indian spinners.

The veteran opener continued his poor run in India, managing only 11 runs across both innings of the recently concluded first Test in Nagpur.

Considering Warner as a walking wicket in India, many former Australian cricketers have called for his axing from the second Test in Delhi.

Meanwhile, legendary former fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has also urged the visitors to drop Warner from their playing XI in the next game.

In his column for The West, the tearaway quick wrote his wish to see Matt Renshaw replacing Warner at the top, with swashbuckling Travis Head slotted in the middle order.

He also slammed the team management for dropping Head, citing the 'horses for courses' approach as the reason, something they hesitated to apply to Warner because of his reputation.

Here's what Johnson wrote

"I would drop David Warner, elevate Matt Renshaw to open and bring Travis Head into the middle order. Leaving out Head, rated the No.4 Test batsman in the world, was very strange. The selectors' reasoning may have been because of too many left-handers, but you're supposed to pick your best players. And if it's about a horses for courses policy based on previous form in the subcontinent, why didn't that apply to Warner? That's where it got murky for me."

Warner has been going through a torrid time in Test cricket, managing only 896 runs at a mediocre average of 29.96. Considering he is on the wrong side of the 30s, the talisman's Test future looks absolutely bleak at the moment.
